Hiab hire and haulage in Cullompton
Cullompton sits right on junction 28 of the M5, which makes it one of the most convenient places in Devon for a haulier. Loads coming down from the Midlands and the north frequently change hands around here.
It is a market town that has grown substantially around that junction, with industrial units alongside a much older centre.
Access
Excellent on the motorway, congested in the middle
Junction 28 is immediate and the industrial areas around it have proper commercial access, which is most of what we come here for.
The old high street is another matter: narrow, busy, and known for congestion, so we would avoid routing anything substantial through the middle of town where there is an alternative.
The surrounding lanes into the Culm valley are ordinary Devon lanes — fine with a bit of planning, awkward without it.
The work
Distribution, trade and agriculture
Because of the junction, a lot of work here is collection: something has come down the motorway and needs taking on into Devon or Cornwall by a lorry that can unload itself at the far end.
Local trade and the farms around the Culm valley make up the rest.
- Collections at junction 28 for delivery across the south west
- Deliveries around the industrial areas
- Farm machinery and containers in the Culm valley
- Steel and materials into local building sites
- Work combined with Tiverton or Exeter runs
The lorry
What turns up in Cullompton
One vehicle: a 30TM HMF hiab with 10 metres of reach on a cheesewedge body, carrying up to 10 tons. It brings the load and lifts it into place, so there is no second machine to arrange and nobody waiting about at either end.
Questions
Common questions about Cullompton
- Can you collect something delivered to junction 28?
- Yes, and it is a common arrangement. A load that has come down the motorway can be picked up here and run on to a site where it needs lifting off, which saves the original haulier a job they cannot do.
- Is the high street a problem?
- It can be congested, so for anything substantial we would look at routing around it rather than through it.
